Summonari don’t trust. Under their command, they summon any number of creatures from the Otherwolds—but never trust them outside of the summoning.
Gargoyles don’t love. Fierce descendants of dragons, they function on power and fear—never love.
Karla isn’t the happily-ever-after type of girl. No territory-hungry guy is going to stick flags all over her unclaimed grounds.
Kann’s world is death and betrayal. As Dar Primus of Haus Varis, he’s expected to follow tradition but he’s not your regular gargoyle. In fact, he’s anything but.
One fateful Friday night, Otherworlds collide. Stuck together in one world or another, Karla and Kann face everything from Awakenings and turbulent love to Festnavals and bloodthirsty scorned suitors.
If there’s one thing they can’t escape, it’s the addiction to each other. And they’ve got it bad.
I only had to see the word 'gargoyle' to know that I wanted to read this book. I love the paranormal genre as a rule, and I read a lot of it. However, I had never come across gargoyles before - well, not outside of the Disney film The Hunchback of Notre Dame - so naturally I was intrigued. For my first book on gargoyles, Gargoyle Addiction was amazing, and I can tell you that I am now in love with this sub-genre!
Despite coming from two completely different worlds, Karla and Kann can't help but be attracted to one another. After being accidentally summoned to the human realm, the pair mate and become inseparable - literally. Taking Karla back to his own world, she is left to live in a house surrounded by gargoyles, brutal, wild descendants of dragons who want nothing more than to tear her apart. The pair will have to fight to be together, or die trying.
Can I just point out that this is New Adult and I love it? Am I starting to - wait for it - like this genre? With the way things are heading, I think I am! Olteano set a perfect balance for the book - the right of amount of action, backstory and sex, all mixed together to create a read both addictive and interesting. The language was rich and imaginative, and I actually remembered what the words Olteano had created meant! The point I'm trying to make is that the book makes enough impact to be memorable, something that is key in making a novel stand out, especially one in such a broad a genre as paranormal.
I think the thing I most liked about Karla was the fact that she remains faithful to herself throughout. A lot of heroines, once they fall in love, completely abandon their previous morals and goals. Karla, despite loving Kann, still holds these views, and I just love the fact that she didn't change for the love interest. She was pretty feisty too, which I always love to see.
I think I could go on and on about this novel forever, so I'm going to stop before I bore your brains out! Basically, Gargoyle Addiction is amazing, and a great first book as an introduction to a subgenre. Olteano has officially got me hooked on gargoyles - I can't get enough of them! Now all I've got to do is impatiently wait for the sequel.
